Description

The American Museum of Science and Energy (AMSE), formerly the American Museum of Atomic Energy, originally opened in 1949 under the direction of the Atomic Energy Commission. Its opening coincided with the public opening of the gates to the city of Oak Ridge, Tennessee that had been built during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project. The AMSE provides a link between the Department of Energy and the public. It showcases the cutting edge of DOE energy research and development, environmental management, and solutions to manufacturing problems. The museum serves as an education and communications forum to transfer information about the past and present programs of the Department of Energy to the American public of all ages.
