Description

The Pocket Recreation Area is named for lying ina low area surrounded by the steep ridges of Horn and Mill Mountains. colorful Azaleas, Dogwoods, Sourwoods, and Mountain Laureal enhance the area with vibrant springtime color. A reich mizture of Hickory, Maple, Oak, Beech, and Yellow Poplar provide brilliant fall color for autimn leaf watching enthusiasts.

The recreation area consists of 27 campsites, most along the creek, with a tent pad, picnic table, fire ring and parking spur. Drinking water is located throughout the campground. The restroom facility is located between sites 7 and 8.

Two trails are open to hikers: the 1-mile Pocket Interpretive Trail and the 2.6 mile Pocket Loop Trail. Nearby is the Pinhoti Trail, a connector to the Appalachian Trail.

Day use of the Pocket's recreational ammenities is free of charge. The picnic shelter is available for a nominal rental fee and must be reserved. www.recreation.gov or call 877-444-6777.
